The Best Sales Move? Saying Nothing At All

Read Time: 3-4 mins

Guess what Reader

I didn't receive a connect and pitch this week on Linkedin.

Ever connected with a salesperson and braced yourself for the pitch? You know it’s coming. You can feel it. You’re just waiting for the “Let’s book a call” message to drop into your inbox.

But what if it never does?

What if, instead, they just say:
"Hey, thanks for connecting."
...And then nothing.

No immediate pitch. No pressure. Just space.

Every moment of everyday we subconsciously seek out things that confirm we’ve done the right thing. We naturally look for signals that confirm we’ve made the right choice. If a prospect connects with you and expects a pushy sales pitch - but instead gets a normal, human interaction - they subconsciously think, “Maybe this person is different. Maybe I didn’t just invite a headache into my inbox.”

That tiny moment of relief builds trust. And as I always talk about…trust is everything.

Critical Insight Of The Week

Sales isn’t about proving you’re the right fit in the first five minutes. It’s about making prospects feel like they made the right choice engaging with you. The best salespeople don’t rush to sell; they create an environment where buyers want to buy.

Food for Thought

Most sales reps are sprinting to a pitch. The best ones walk at the buyer’s pace. Have you ever had a sales interaction that made you rethink how selling should feel? Hit reply because I’d love to hear about it.

  • Break the pattern: How can you surprise prospects in your first interaction?
  • Let them breathe: Are you giving buyers enough space to be curious about you?
  • Play the long game: What small moments of trust-building can you stack over time?
